5 Technology Observations: Aug. 10

Good morning, I.T. entrepreneurs. Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter and plenty more to start your day for Monday, Aug., 10, 2015.

Actually, today's update involves nine items to sip on.

9. GigaNo: After shutting down and then getting acquired, GigaOm is posting content again. But so far the effort looks rather minimal.

8. Big Ambitions: HP is hosting a Big Data conference starting today in Boston. It's safe to expect major updates from HP VP Robert Youngjohns and Senior VP Colin Mahony...

7. Giant Oracle Licensing Move?: Rumor has it Oracle may offer a perpetual database license -- a potential move designed to keep customers loyal to Big Red amid the growing shift to cloud computing and subscription services.

6. More Changes?: Cisco is set to unveil quarterly earnings on Aug. 12. Actually, the earnings wrap up Cisco's fiscal 2015 -- and close the book on former CEO John Chambers' leadership. 2. Goodbye and Hello: I spent the past couple of weeks on vacation while working on some projects behind the scenes. The efforts look promising.

1. NFL Countdown: Last night was the first NFL preseason game. The regular season kicks of Sept. 10... Can't wait...
