Fresh Tech Funding: BetterIT, RedOwl Analytics & More

We've been tracking fresh tech funding news (venture capital, angel investor and private equity moves) in our daily 5 Things blog. But quite a few readers have asked us to break out the info into a separate blog on days when funding news is especially heavy. Days like today. So here you go... a look at tech companies that have received fresh funding in recent days.

1. BetterIT Communications (Denver, Colo.), focused on a SaaS-based customer feedback system, has raised seed funding valuing the company at $3 million.

2. Bittext (San Francisco), focused on a text analytics platform, raised $900,000 in seed funding -- led by Inveready.

3. Gozio Health (Palo Alto, Calif.), which develops an indoor navigation app for hospitals, has raised $950 million in seed funding. Multiple investors were involved.

4. RedOwl Analytics (New York), focused on security analytics, has received a strategic investment from Blackstone. Financial details were not disclosed.

6. Reltio (Palo Alto, Calif.), focused on data-driven applications for enterprises, raised $10 million in Series A funding. Key backers include Crosslink Capital.

7. Streetlife (London), a social network for local communities, raised an undisclosed sum from Social Discovery Ventures. My big question: Is there anything "unique" to be done in the localized social media market?

Key takeaway: All types of companies (security, storage, mobile) are adding the term "Analytics" to their name and/or mission. Gathering, managing and analyzing data remains among the hottest areas for VC- and angel-backed startups.
